Creators of all-ages comics gathered at Comic-Con International in San Diego for the appropriately titled “All-Ages Comics Have Arrived” panel. Moderated by “Lumberjanes” co-creator and KaBOOM! Editor Shannon Watters, the panel featured a diverse group of creators: Dave Roman (“Astronaut Academy,” “Teen Boat!”), Gene Luen Yang (“American Born Chinese,” “Boxers and Saints”), David Petersen (“Mouse Guard”), and Ian McGinty (“Bravest Warriors,” “Adventure Time: Candy Capers”).

Watters started the panel with a tough question regarding the reputation of all-ages comics: “Why do you think that people get so defensive about something not just being for kids, or not being for kids at all?” Roman speculated that the defensiveness was not restricted to the world of comics, or even a particular age group. “Even a ten-year-old kid will be like, ‘I don’t watch Nick Jr.! That’s for babies!'” He also said that publishers push books into specific categories for marketing purposes, which makes it difficult to establish an all-ages title as truly accessible for all audiences.

It’s been a long time since any updates were posted due to a variety of reasons, mostly all personal. Busy schedules and a new baby will do that.

But now I think it’s time I look at getting back to posting some stuff here. It may not be regular, everyday kind of posting/blogging, but I’ll do the best I can with the time I have.

Thanks for your patience.

Have a great day!

Introducing A Brand New My Little Pony Ongoing Comic Series

San Diego, CA (November 27, 2013) – Everyone knows beloved Twilight Sparkle and her best friends, but have you ever wanted to know what the other ponies in Equestria are up to?  Starting in January you will get a chance with the new ongoing comic series My Little Pony: Friends Forever.  This collection, based on the animated hit series, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, airing on the Hub Network, will be made up of one-shot stories that focus on different pairs of ponies getting into various hijinx and will feature a mix of new creators as well as old favorites.

“Every MY LITTLE PONY fan has a personal favorite character,” says editor Bobby Curnow, “This series will allow a closer look at those adored ponies (and creatures) while maintaining the fun, adventure and humor of our other MY LITTLE PONY comic books. If you like buddy comedies, this is the comic for you!”

“My hypothesis is that everyone has two Ponies: one that reflects their actual personality, and one that they aspire to be,” says Michael Kelly, Hasbro’s Director of Global Publishing. “I’m pretty sure this new series is all the proof I need. The only question is, will your two Ponies be featured?”

The first pony pairing will feature the loveable Applejack and Pinkie Pie in “The Pie’s The Limit” by two noted authors, Alex de Campi and Carla Speed McNeil.  When these two ponies enter a baking contest they will learn more than just what it means to be the best at something but also what it means to be a friend.

“My daughter (3 years old) and I are both huge fans of the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic animated series,” says writer Alex de Campi, “It’s a delight and an honour to be briefly allowed to be custodians of these wonderful characters — especially my daughter’s favourite pony, Pinkie Pie.”

“Working with the MY LITTLE PONY brand is very satisfying,” says Carla Speed McNeil, “The characters are so well conceived that a writer can deal any set of ‘cards’ and make a great story, and so well designed that they’re endlessly versatile while remaining loads of fun to draw. It’s definitely the show I wish I’d had when I was a kid!”

Alex de Campi works in various art mediums from film to comics and is known for her work on IDW’s Smoke, which was nominated for the 2005 Eisner for Best Limited Series.

Carla Speed McNeil is a multiple Eisner Award nominated writer and artist, best known for her science fiction comic series Finder.

About Garfield

GARFIELD was born on the comics pages on June 19, 1978. The brainchild of cartoonist Jim Davis, GARFIELD is a humorous strip centered on the lives of a fat, lazy, cynical orange cat who loves lasagna, coffee, and his remote control; Jon Arbuckle, his owner; and Odie, a sweet-but-dumb dog. GARFIELD was

introduced to the world in just 41 newspapers and is now the most widely syndicated comic strip ever, appearing in 2400 newspapers. The success of the comic strip spawned a popular animated TV show, “Garfield and Friends,” which appeared on CBS-TV from 1988 to 1995, and is currently in worldwide syndication.  In 2009, “The Garfield Show” debuted on Cartoon Network USA and now airs in 135 countries.  PEOPLE magazine called the show, “One of the Year’s Best New Kids’ Shows” in 2009.

In 2004, Twentieth Century Fox invited Garfield to star in his first-ever full-length feature film, Garfield: The Movie. A sequel, Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties was released in June 2006.  The movies earned over $340 million at the box office.  Garfield has also starred in three CGI animated movies, all penned by Jim Davis.  Fox released Garfield Gets Real (2007), Garfield’s Fun Fest (2008), and Garfield’s Pet Force (2009) on DVD and in limited theatrical release.

Garfield also entertains his fans on a popular website, garfield.com, and engages kids in interesting and pedagogically sound activities to promote literacy at professorgarfield.org.  English, Science and Life Skills are among the topics Garfield and his pals address atlearninglab.org, a public service of the Virginia Department of Education.

Garfield has long been considered a “classic” or “evergreen” property because he has not only endured, but continues to be fresh and funny after 35 years in the limelight.

Follow Garfield, along with 8.7 million other fans, on Facebook (facebook.com/Garfield) and Twitter (twitter.com/Garfield).

About Paws, Inc.

Today, Paws is the sole owner of all copyrights and trademarks for the Garfield property, and controls not only the creative angle of the fat cat’s flourishing empire, but also the licensing, marketing, and brand management of Garfield and the Garfield characters.

I haven’t been on here in a long while but wanted to get back to this kind of blog posting as Facebook itself isn’t ideal for it. So I’m reactivating this link and blog and will be posting stuff here again. I want to be able to more easily add links and images to reviews so that the content is better and more informative.
